What Is a Pressure Switch?
A pressure switch is a flexible pad or button connected to the weapon light or laser by a cable. It is typically positioned on the handguard where the support hand naturally rests, enabling momentary or constant activation by squeezing the pad without requiring thumb or trigger-finger movement.
Types
Momentary-Only: Active only while pressed. Excellent for tactical use—light activates when you squeeze, deactivates when you release. Reduces inadvertent activation.
Constant-On/Momentary: A two-mode switch where a full press activates momentary and a click-and-hold provides constant-on. More versatile but requires more deliberate operation.
Dual-Function (Light + Laser): Some switches simultaneously control both a laser and a light from a single unit, or allow separate control via separate pads or zones on the same switch body.
Connector Compatibility
This is critical—the switch must be compatible with your specific light or laser. Common connector standards include:
SureFire Tape Switch: The classic format; many third-party switches replicate this connector for SureFire-compatible lights.
Streamlight/Cloud Defensive: Use proprietary connectors specific to their product lines.
Picatinny/7-Slot Body: Some switch bodies mount via Picatinny and connect via a proprietary plug.

Mounting Options
Pressure switches typically mount on M-LOK, KeyMod, or Picatinny rails. Routing the cable cleanly is important—loose cables can snag during manipulation. Quality cable management solutions (cable clips, adhesive guides) keep the cord out of the way.

Start with the switch recommended by your light or laser manufacturer—compatibility is guaranteed and the activation feel is tuned for that specific device.
